62 Group Membership

Becoming a 62 Group Member

Membership of the 62 Group of Textile Artists is open to those of any age, gender or nationality working in any textile media worldwide.

Membership

The 62 Group is an artist led organisation administered by a committee of group members. All exhibiting members are subject to continuous selection by their peers. Those who do not submit or do not have their work selected for three consecutive years forfeit membership. This rigorous criterion plays a vital role in stimulating the Group’s growth and development.

A regular newsletter ensures contact is maintained between members; there are also regional meetings and an Annual General Meeting (AGM), which sometimes include lectures by guests and members. The annual membership fee for an exhibiting member is currently £45.00 GBP Sterling, (payable on 1st September annually) which covers the newsletter and AGM, as well as publications and organising of exhibitions.

The success and continuation of the Group depends on its members. A committee administers the Group and applicants should only apply for membership if they are willing to take an active part in assisting in this administration.

Application Procedure

  1. Payment of a £22 GBP Sterling application fee.
(This fee contributes to the expense of convening the selection committee and must be paid before any application can be considered)
  2. Submission of a completed application form together with 5-10 digital images of your work saved as JPEGs.
(These must arrive by midnight 1st June 2017; late or incomplete applications cannot be considered )
  3. Selection of new members.

1. Paying the Application Fee

Before you can send us your completed application and images to us for consideration, you will need to pay the £22 GBP Sterling application fee by credit or debit card into our PayPal account.

(Please note that you DO NOT need to have your own PayPal account to pay by this method.)

Pay Application Fee

Once your payment has been received we will send you information by email on how to upload your completed application form and images. (Please allow up to 48 hours after payment.)

2. Submission of Application

Completing the Application Form

If you haven’t already downloaded the New Members Application Form 2017 you can do that now.

Get Application Form

The application form is an interactive PDF document which can be completed by typing directly into the form fields using a computer keyboard and saved ready for sending. A recent version of Adobe Reader is required. Get the latest version at https://get.adobe.com/reader/

If you experience problems in completing and saving the interactive application form you should print it out and fill in by hand. This can then be scanned and saved ready for uploading.

Preparing Digital Images of Your Work

All images should be of a high standard, promoting the applicant’s credentials as a professional practitioner. It is important that applicants note that poor quality digital images will reflect badly on the application and may be rejected.

Please submit between five and ten images illustrating at least five pieces of work made in the last five years, but not including work made as part of a degree show. Detail views are welcome but you must also include a whole view or views of the work in question.

Digital images should be in JPEG format only and have a resolution of not less than 300dpi and a file size of no more than 5MB each.

Please name your images in the format:

3. The Selection Process

There are 2 stages to the selection process.

Stage 1 | Selection by images.
Stage 2 | Selection by actual work.

Stage 1

  • A panel of 62 Group members considers the applications.
  • The membership of the selection panel changes regularly and includes both recent and long-standing members.
  • A majority vote is needed for an applicant to progress to the second stage.
  • The decision of the selection panel is final and no correspondence will be entered into regarding the vote or the decision.
  • Applicants will be notified by email of the results as soon as possible.
  • An email will be sent out to successful 1st stage applicants who will be asked to submit actual work for the second stage selection.
  • Work should be presented as outlined in the letter.

Stage 2

  • A different panel of 62 Group members considers the applications.

  • There is one link person from the 1st stage panel. This is usually the current New Member’s committee member.

  • The decision of the selection panel is final and no correspondence will be entered into regarding the vote or the decision.

  • Applicants will be notified by email of the results as soon as possible and successful applicants will be welcomed to the 62 Group.

  • Unsuccessful applicants are welcome to reapply and any previous application is not made known to the selection panel.
