Chair Welcomes Six New Members

Catherine Dormor, current chair of the 62 Group welcomes six new members: Mark McLeish (UK), Athena Nemeth (UK), Jane Walkley (UK), Dr Hannah White (UK), Helen Davies (Associate) (UK) and Woo Jin Joo (Associate) (UK).

Mark McLeish’s practice unpacks an interdisciplinary mixed media textile approach, that dominantly sits in the realm of Art Jewellery. His practice led approach to making is pollinated by research that excavates ideas around the intent of magic on material thinking. This cross-cuts historical notations of jewellery as spells, and challenges this with progressive story telling that is often autobiographical. Athena Nemeth is a hand embroiderer who likes to use the medium to retell tales from history. She considers her self both an artist and an ‘armchair’ historian. She says, “If I’m not making art I’m reading about history just to enrich my brain”…  More…

Jane Walkley is a UK based visual artist exploring the interplay between memory, place and attachment.Responding to specific heritage sites, Jane uses traditional tapestry techniques whilst incorporating hand-cast components capable of replicating intricate detail, which she casts in her studio in Leeds. Her work investigates the interplay between the structure of her woven fabrics, material characteristics, form and light. Woo Jin Woo (Associate) is a mixed-media artist, specializing in soft sculpture and embroidery. Her practice focuses on exploring our relationship with materials and objects in our lives, and ways of re-enchanting the relationship through craft, storytelling, and mythology.
